Glass processing on CNC

Processing capacities of CNC Intermac 45+

The CNC used by Glass Expert is a glass processing unit whose processing head can move on a 3D course resulted from the interpolation of the 5 axes X, Y, Z, A si C.
The high technology software operating .dxf files, as well as mechanical elements belonging to the processing unit enable us to manufacture glass parts with very low dimensional deviations (tenths of a millimeter).
The maximum dimensions of glass that can be processed on this unit are 4200 x 2300 x 500mm and they correspond to the 3 axes X, Y and Z.
The processing unit is endowed with a storehouse with 24 tools, thus reducing very much the time needed for replacement, especially because the access to these storehouses located laterally is also assured during the operation of the machine.
CNC has the possibility to finish and process both glass and marble, or it can even finish an assembly made of glass and marble, for instance in the case of tables containing both materials.
Seeing all the above, we can say that the only limitation of the glass processing unit could be the imagination of those who design the parts to be manufactured.

Edge processing with different types of profiles

The edge processing using the CNC can be made with disk-type cutters or the so-called 90 degrees beveling machine, which implies a longer processing time, but a better quality of the edge.
|n case a special profile is needed, the necessary cutters for the execution of such profile can be ordered.
Due to the fact that on the Z axis we are only limited by the 500mm quota, any glass can be processed, no thicker than this limit.

Glass routing by cutting

The glass routing for different applications, such as: mounting of washstands in the glass countertops, mounting of lighting spots in mirrors, mounting of sockets in wall platings is easily performed, and for a safe subsequent operation, the routing edges shall be finished, or even polished.
The minimum radius for interior routing is 15mm in case the edge must also be finished, and 5mm in case the edge is left unfinished.

Beveling both for interior angle and for exterior angle

In case of special applications, such as the art furniture, the beveling of mirrors with interior routing can imply significant problems, as until the creation of the CNC with 5 axes, there was no such equipment. The beveling for the interior corner could only be performed manually, with all the disadvantages of such a method.
Currently, not only can we perform beveling for interior corners, but we can also control exactly the angle and thickness of the beveling machine.

Engraving both on the surface and on the glass edge

The system coordinating the 5 axes enable the CNC to engrave both on the glass surface and on its edge.
In case Glass Expert has the font you want, the client can send by e-mail or with the order the font it prefers. The writing can have different thicknesses and depths, by using different writing heads, as the engraving can mean simple characters or complex drawings.

Surface engraving for glass and mirror

The engraving can be performed both by straight lines and by circular arcs or curved lines. The most frequently used engravings were performed for the decoration of mirrors included in the luxury furniture. Due to the "V" profile of the engraving disk, as well as to the fact that the thicknesses of disks differ, various models can be obtained by interpolating these characteristics.
These engravings can have both a decorative role and a functional one, as in the case of sliding doors of wood furniture.

Glass drilling with the "Head-to-Head" drill

In the case of different applications where the accuracy of glass drillings is fundamental, CNC represents a useful machine for the execution of such projects. For the completion of such a project, in most of the cases, the glass must be tempered for a superior finishing of bores. With the head-to-head drilling technology, we can say that the glass processed on CNC will be safer for subsequent operations than the glass processed by conventional technologies.

Glass cutting on straight and curved lines with diamond disk

In the case of multi-layer glass processing for applications such as the floor glass or the bullet-resistant glass, cutting must be performed with a disk. Thus, we can obtain results more rapidly than by milling, with fewer costs for the client. The major advantage of glass cutting after lamination is that very accurate dimensions can be obtained, without perpendicularity deviations at the corners.

Edge finishing for glass washstands

The edge plane of glass washstands, due to the glass curving during the manufacturing process, is no longer parallel with the plane where the washstand must be introduced in its holder. In these situations, most of the clients require the finishing of these edges. With the help of some special fastening systems, CNC can finish these edges, even with some degrees of slope so that the drops on the edge flow in the washstand and not out of it.
