Cold and hot enameling

As a technique, the difference between the cold and hot enameling is represented by the type of painting and its application time/glass tempering. While the cold enameling means the application of a special painting after the finishing, drilling, routing and tempering processes, the hot enameling implies finishing, drilling, routing, then application of painting and the last process would be tempering. Both enameling variants have advantages: the hot enameling- the painting layer is very resistant to handling and operation in time, but there is a restrictive number of colors that can be realized; as for cold enameling, the resistance in time is not that good as for the hot enameling, but it can realize absolutely all RAL colors.

For many years, the glass printing has been performed by using a screen to scatter ink on its surface. Now, the technological progress brought the digital printing, far better than the traditional method, eliminating the difficulties of cleaning and maintaining the screens.

The major disadvantage of this method is the high cost generated by the special machines used for printing, but the accuracy and quality of the final image represents an advantage creating the cost-quality balance.

Another solution, more and more frequently used, for the permanent persistence of colors is represented by the printing of a special foil incorporated in the laminated glass panels. This special type of printable foil is designed for an accurate rendering of the model, drawing or even photograph. After this printing process comes the lamination between two glass panels, at controlled temperatures between 250-400 °C.
