Curving and fusing

How can we made curved glass ?
Glass curving is performed by plastic deformation and if we should define this process, we can do it as follows: glass curving is the plastic deformation phenomenon under the effect of temperature, where heating and cooling are made depending on certain curves. The heating and cooling curves of the glass during the entire process are carefully set by our specialists in order to obtain both the designed curve and the glass quality according to the initial parameters ( in terms of transparency, hardness, image deformation, etc. ). The manufacturing of curved glass depends on several factors more or less interrelating. These are: the glass type, the glass quality, size, curving angle, type of curving, the glass thickness, the quality of the mould material etc. Glass Expert can manufacture curved glass for most types of glass (clear glass, ornamental glass, colored glass mass, reflexive glass, Low-E glass). As the curvature radii differ depending on each project, we can perform both gravitational curving and forced curving, being able to give any shape to the glass, our only limit being the imagination.
Characteristics of glass curving furnance
Main characteristics of the glass curving furnace used by Glass Expert:
- interior dimension: 2500(w) x 1500(d) x 800(h) mm;
- thickness of glass that can be curved, between: 2 - 25 mm;
- temperature electronic control system by PLC;
Glass can be curved according to the mould and to your needs, as follows:
- cylindrical curving and cylindrical curving with straight sections;
- round curving;
- conic curving;
- parabolic curving;
- artistic curving;
Applications for curved glass
The curved glass is more and more frequently used mainly due to the new design lines. The main applications of the curved glass are the following:
- exterior architectural applications, lying at the basis of the thermo-insulating curved glass;
- furniture and furniture sub-assemblies (glass doors, furniture elements);
- decorative elements or elements used in advertising;
- components of the furniture for the food industry (refrigerated display cases, refrigerators);
- railings and structural curved elements used to hold the stairs;
- shower cabins systems and glass doors;
- office partitioning systems;
- exterior protection glass for revolving doors;
- automatic doors;
- canopies and lamps;
- shop windows;
- curtain walls and glass for windows;

Existing curvature radius and minimum necessary data
The mould system highly depends on the curved glass production level assured by it. Depending on the number of glass pieces to be performed on a mould , these moulds can be made of different materials: ceramics, metal, stainless steel refractory stainless steel etc.
The moulds currently available are moulds for cylindrical curving, with the following radii:
- 400 mm radius;
- 600 mm radius;
- 715 mm radius;
- 815 mm radius;
The minimum necessary data for the elaboration of a curved glass offer, in the case of cylindrical curving, are: the glass thickness, the curvature radius, the central angle described by the arc of the length of the cord and the height of the circular arc.
